NOTE: These instructions are for the Kohler 15.5hp engine. The procedure may vary slightly for other models.
Here is how to adjust the valves:
1. Locate the valve covers on the engine. There will be two valve covers, one for the intake valves and one for the exhaust valves.
2. Remove the valve covers. To do this, loosen the screws that hold the valve covers in place.
3. Locate the valves on the engine. There will be two intake valves and two exhaust valves.
4. Turn the flywheel until the piston for the valve you are adjusting is at the top of its stroke.
5. Use the 3/8-inch ratchet wrench to loosen the locknut on the valve.
6. Use the 5/8-inch socket wrench to turn the adjuster screw on the valve. Turn the adjuster screw until you can just insert the 0.002-inch feeler gauge between the valve stem and the rocker arm.
7. Tighten the locknut on the valve.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for the other three valves.
9. Replace the valve covers.
10. Start the engine and check for any leaks.
