Materials Needed:
-New oil (API SL or SJ, viscosity SAE 10W-40 or 10W-50)
-Oil filter (if applicable, typically every other oil change)
-Oil drain pan
-Funnel
-Wrench
-Rags
Procedure:
1. Warm up the ATV's engine for a few minutes to help drain the old oil more effectively.
2. Position the ATV on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down.
3. Locate the oil drain plug, which is usually on the bottom of the oil pan. Place the oil drain pan underneath the plug to catch the old oil.
4. Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be careful as the oil may be hot. Allow all of the old oil to drain out.
5. While the oil is draining, take this opportunity to change the oil filter (if applicable) by locating it near the top of the engine, unscrew the old oil filter, and screw in the new filter by hand until snug, then tighten it slightly more using the wrench.
6. Once the old oil has completely drained, reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it securely.
7. Open the oil filler cap (usually on top of the engine near the oil filter).
8. Insert the funnel into the filler hole.
9. Pour the new oil into the engine. Refer to the owner's manual for the recommended oil quantity.
10. Check the oil level by using the dipstick or sight glass (if applicable) to ensure you've added enough oil.
11. Replace the oil filler cap and wipe off any spilled oil.
