* Wrenches (size 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm)
* Phillips-head screwdriver
* Flat-head screwdriver
* Penetrating oil (such as WD-40)
* Replacement heat shield (if necessary)
Here is a step-by-step guide:
1. Loosen the bolts with a 10, 12, or 14 mm wrench that secures the heat shield to the exhaust pipe. The size 10 mm is for loosening the bolts with nuts at the mid of the heat shield. It uses the 12mm wrench to loosen the bolt without a nut near the exhaust, and the 14mm wrench is used to remove the bolts with nuts that connect to the engine.
2. Remove the Phillips-head screws with the screwdriver.
3. Gently pry up the heat shield with a flat-head screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the header pipe or the exhaust system.
4. To remove the heat shields without nuts near the exhaust, insert a flat head screwdriver between the head shield and the pipe and pry it from under the pipe.
5. If necessary, replace the heat shield with a new one. Follow the reverse of the above steps to reinstall the new heat shield.
*Note: If the bolts and screws are rusted or corroded, you may need to use penetrating oil to loosen them. Spray the penetrating oil on the bolts and screws and let it sit for a few minutes before trying to loosen them.*
Be careful not to drop any of the bolts, screws, or washers.
