1. Remove skid plate (not necessary on all models).
2. Locate oil filter cover at the front of the engine.
3. Remove the oil filter cover bolts.
4. Discard old oil filter and o-ring.
5. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the new oil filter gasket and thread the filter onto the engine.
6. Tighten the oil filter cover bolts.
7. Refill the engine with the required amount of new engine oil.
8. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil.
9. Check for leaks.
Note: The oil filter on the Yamaha V-Star 650 is located in a different location on different model years. For example, on the 2008-2017 Yamaha V-Star 650, the oil filter is located on the right side of the engine.
