1. Disconnect the battery negative to prevent any accidents.
2. Lift up the car using ramps and a jack. Make sure the car is safely secured using jack stands.
3. Locate the petrol tank. On the underside of the tank you should see a black cylinder shaped object with fuel pipes connected to each end.
4. Remove the two fuel pipes to access the fuel filter. To remove the pipes slide the clip forward or back, then pull the pipe off.
5. Using an adjustable or ring spanner, loosen the filter from its bracket and remove it. To help the filter come loose, tap the bracket with a hammer.
6. Ensure the O rings are still in place in the old fuel filter. If not, remove the old rings from the old filter and fit them onto the new filter.
7. Tighten up the new fuel filter and re-attach the fuel pipes.
8. Lower the car and reconnect the battery.
For models after 8/99:
The fuel filter is located underneath the floor of the car.
1. The fuel filter is located along the bottom of the fuel tank. You can view the filter by looking at the underside of the car.
2. Use ramps to lift the car off the ground and safely secure the car with jack stands.
3. Locate the petrol tank and the black cylindrical object underneath the tank. This is the fuel filter.
4. Remove the two fuel pipes to access the fuel filter. To remove the pipe slide the clip forward or back, then pull the pipe off.
5. Using an adjustable spanner, turn the filter anti-clockwise to remove it.
6. Take the O-rings from the old filter and ensure they are installed in the new filter before screwing the new filter into the appropriate hole in the floor.
7. Reattach the fuel pipes and lower the vehicle.
