1. Park the vehicle on level ground and turn off the engine.
2. Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes.
3. Open the hood of the vehicle.
4. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. It is usually marked with a yellow or orange handle and is located near the back of the engine compartment.
5. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a rag.
6. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission fluid dipstick tube.
7. Pull out the dipstick again and check the fluid level. The fluid should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
8. If the fluid level is low, add enough transmission fluid to bring it up to the "FULL" mark. Use a funnel to add the fluid slowly.
9. Reinsert the dipstick and check the fluid level again.
10. Replace the dipstick and close the hood of the vehicle.
