1. Disconnect the battery terminal. This will help prevent you from getting hurt in the event of an electrical short.
2. Locate the fuel pump fuse or circuit breaker. Remove this item to prevent the fuel pump from turning on while you're working on it.
Remove the Fuel Tank
1. Remove the fuel tank skid plate (if equipped).
2. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank. These lines are typically held in place with quick-connect fittings, but you may need a wrench to loosen the connections.
3. Support the fuel tank.
4. Remove the bolts holding the fuel tank in place. There are typically four bolts, two at the front and two at the rear of the tank.
5. Lower the fuel tank.
Remove and Replace the Fuel Pump
1. Inspect the fuel pump. If it is dirty, replace it.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump.
3. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts.
4. Remove the fuel pump from the tank.
5. Take note of the fuel pump O-ring. If the O-ring is damaged, replace it.
6. Install the new fuel pump in the tank.
7. Reinstall the fuel pump mounting bolts.
8. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel pump.
Reinstall the Fuel Tank
1. Reinstall the fuel tank in the vehicle.
2. Reinstall the fuel tank mounting bolts.
3. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel tank.
4. Reinstall the fuel tank skid plate (if equipped).
Test the Fuel Pump
1. Turn on the ignition and listen for the fuel pump to run. You should hear a buzzing or humming sound coming from the fuel tank.
2. If you don't hear the fuel pump running, check your work and make sure that everything is connected properly.
