- Floor jack
- Car stands or ramps
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Adjustable wrench
- Socket set
- Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
1.) Disconnect the battery.
2.) Raise the car and support on jack stands or ramps.
3.) Remove the fuel filler cap.
4.) Drain the fuel tank into a drain pan.
5.) Disconnect the fuel lines from the tank.
6.) Disconnect the vapor recovery line from the tank.
7.) Remove the mounting bolts that hold the fuel tank in place.
8.) Remove the fuel tank from the car.
Note: Fuel tanks are heavy, get help if you need it
Reinstall the fuel tank in reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to tighten all screws securely and to reconnect the battery.
Here are some additional tips:
- It may be helpful to remove the rear seats to gain access to the fuel tank.
- If the fuel tank is rusted, you may need to replace it with a new one.
- Be sure to wear eye protection and gloves when working on your car.
