Disconnect battery ground terminal
Locate & Disconnect battery ground terminal
Raise your vehicle
Raise the vehicle on ramps or safely support it with jack stands so you have enough room to work under it.
Locate the starter motor.
The starter motor is located on the lower left side of the engine, between the engine and the transmission. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with two or three electrical terminals on it.
Disconnect electrical power.
Use a ratchet and socket to disconnect the positive power wire from the starter solenoid. This wire will have a large connector on it. Next, disconnect the small trigger wire from the solenoid. Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry open the connector and remove it from the solenoid.
Unfasten the starter motor hold-down bolts
Use a ratchet and socket to unfasten the starter motor hold-down bolts. There will be two or three of these bolts, depending on your model. Remove them completely and set them aside.
Take out Starter Motor
Once the starter motor is loose, you can take it out of the vehicle. Be careful, because it is a heavy object. Pull it straight back out of the vehicle.
Disconnect starter motor drive-link wire
Look under the vehicle and disconnect the drive-link wire from the bottom front of the starter.
Reinstall in Reverse
Reinstall the starter in the reverse order of the removal steps, but tighten all bolts and wire connections securely.
