How go you change a starter on 1995 jaguar xj6?

Tools Needed:

- 10mm socket wrench

- 15mm socket wrench

- 22mm socket wrench

- Pry bar

- Jack and jack stands

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

Instructions:

1. Disconnect the battery. This is done by removing the negative battery cable from the battery.

2. Raise the car. You will need to jack the car up and support it with jack stands. Make sure the car is stable before you begin working.

3. Remove the air cleaner. The air cleaner is located on the top of the engine. It is held in place by two 10mm bolts. Remove these bolts and lift off the air cleaner.

4. Remove the starter cover. The starter cover is a metal plate that is bolted to the starter motor. It is located on the lower left side of the engine. Remove the two 15mm bolts that hold the starter cover in place and remove the cover.

5. Disconnect the electrical wires from the starter. There are two electrical wires connected to the starter. Disconnect the wires by removing the nuts that hold them in place.

6. Remove the starter mounting bolts. There are two starter mounting bolts that hold the starter in place. Remove these bolts using a 22mm socket wrench.

7. Pry the starter out of the engine. Use a pry bar to pry the starter out of the engine. Be careful not to damage the flywheel.

8. Install the new starter. Place the new starter in the engine and secure it with the starter mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 45 ft-lbs.

9. Connect the electrical wires to the starter. Connect the positive wire first and then the negative wire. Tighten the nuts that hold the wires in place.

10. Install the starter cover. Place the starter cover on the starter motor and secure it with the two 15mm bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 ft-lbs.

11. Install the air cleaner. Place the air cleaner on the top of the engine and secure it with the two 10mm bolts. Tighten the bolts to 10 ft-lbs.

12. Lower the car. Lower the car from the jack stands and remove the jack.

13. Reconnect the battery. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.

14. Start the car. Start the car and check for leaks.
