How do you fix a window off track on 2001 VW Bug?

To fix a window that has come off its track on a 2001 VW Bug:

1. Gather necessary tools: Phillips head screwdriver, new window track, tape measure, pliers, 2x4 piece of wood, lubricant

2. Roll window all the way down

3. Remove door panel: With the Phillips head screwdriver, remove five screws that are located on the following areas of the door panel:

a. Two near the door lock

b. Two near the pull handle

c. One near the door jam

d. With a flathead screwdriver pry up the window crank to remove it. This reveals a final Phillips head screw underneath the crank. Remove this screw as well.

e. Remove all five interior door handle plastic caps to expose five Phillips screws. Remove the five screws.

f. Slide a pry bar into the gap near the window crank. Gently pop up the panel using the pry bar.

4. Set door panel aside in a safe place

5. Use measuring tape to measure the opening in which the window tracks sit

6. If you find any metal shards or fragments, vacuum them up

7. Insert new glass tracks (usually come in pairs). Insert them slowly as they can fit quite tightly.

8. Slide window up along new track

9. Replace the door panel by securing the five interior door handle Phillips screws first. Then press door panel into place and replace five screws that were initially removed.

10. Test window to ensure it opens and closes smoothly. You may have to lubricate the tracks if the window still rolls up and down too tightly.
