The fuse for the brake lights in a 2002 Volkswagen Passat is located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. To access the fuse box, open the hood of the vehicle and look for a black plastic cover on the driver's side near the battery. Once you have located the fuse box, remove the cover to expose the fuses inside. The fuse for the brake lights is labeled as "BRAKE" and is typically a 15 amp fuse. If the fuse is blown, it will be broken in the middle. To replace a blown fuse, simply remove the old fuse and install a new one of the same amperage.
