How do you change the speedometer cable in a German 1989 190e Mercedes?

Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical current from flowing through the speedometer cable and possibly causing damage to the instrument cluster.

Locate the speedometer cable. It is usually located near the transmission and runs up to the instrument cluster.

Detach the cable from the transmission. There is a clip that holds it in place. Use a screwdriver to pry up on it and then pull the cable out.

Detach the cable from the instrument cluster. There is a screw that holds it in place. Use a screwdriver to remove it and then pull the cable out.

Install the new cable. Insert the new cable into the instrument cluster and secure it with the screw. Then insert the cable into the transmission and secure it with the clip.

Connect the negative battery terminal. Start the car and make sure that the speedometer works properly.
