What does it mean when my 99 cummins 24 valve will turn over but start?

Potential Causes:

- Low battery voltage

- Bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor

- Bad injector pump

- Bad lift pump

- Air in the fuel system

- Bad fuel pressure regulator

- Bad VP-44 injection pump

- Bad ECM

- Faulty wiring or connections

Additional Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check battery voltage and ensure it is above 12 volts. If the battery is weak or dead, charge or replace it.

2. Check the crankshaft position sensor. If it is damaged or not connected properly, replace it.

3. Check the fuel pressure at the injector pump. It should be between 10 and 15 psi. If the fuel pressure is too low, the injector pump may be bad or there may be air in the fuel system.

4. Check the fuel filter. If it is clogged, replace it.

5. Check the lift pump. If it is not working properly, replace it.

6. Check the wiring and connections to the injector pump and ECM. Make sure they are all clean and tight.

7. If all of the above checks out, the problem may be with the ECM. Have the ECM tested by a qualified mechanic.

Additional Tips:

- If you are experiencing a hard start condition, try cycling the key on and off several times before attempting to start the engine. This can help to prime the fuel system and make it easier to start the engine.

- If you have recently changed the fuel filter, make sure that it is installed correctly and that there are no air leaks in the fuel system.

- If you are using biodiesel or blended diesel, make sure that it meets the correct specifications for your engine. Some types of biodiesel can cause problems with starting and performance.
