- Idle Air Control (IAC) valve: The IAC valve is responsible for controlling the amount of air that bypasses the throttle body when the engine is idling. If the IAC valve is faulty or dirty, it can cause the engine to stall when you stop at a light.
- Fuel filter: A clogged fuel filter can restrict fuel flow to the engine, which can lead to stalling.
- Spark plugs: Faulty spark plugs can also cause the engine to stall. Check the condition of sparkplugs to verify they aren’t worn.
- Vacuum leaks: Vacuum leaks can cause the engine to run lean, which can lead to stalling. Check all vacuum hoses for cracks or breaks.
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS): The TPS is a sensor that tells the engine control unit (ECU) how far the throttle is open. If the TPS is faulty, it can send the wrong signal to the ECU, which can cause the engine to stall.
- Catalytic Converter: A clogged catalytic converter can restrict exhaust flow and cause the engine to stall. If the catalytic converter is clogged you will often times smell rotten eggs.
If you can, try to get your vehicle to a mechanic to diagnose the issue. They will be able to check the various components of your vehicle and let you know what needs to be replaced or repaired.
