1. Locate the crankshaft pulley at the front of the engine. It is usually covered by a plastic cover.
2. Remove the plastic cover to expose the crankshaft pulley.
3. Look for a small notch on the outer edge of the crankshaft pulley. This notch is the timing mark for the crankshaft.
4. There should also be a corresponding notch on the timing belt cover. Align the notch on the crankshaft pulley with the notch on the timing belt cover.
5. When the timing marks are aligned, the engine is at top dead center (TDC) and the valves are closed. This is the correct position for setting the timing belt.
