The oil filter on a 1997 Ford Expedition equipped with a 5.4L engine is located on the passenger side of the engine, just below the exhaust manifold. It is housed in a black cylindrical canister that is screwed onto the engine block. The oil filter can be accessed by removing the engine oil drain plug, which is located on the bottom of the oil pan.

>1. Locate the oil filter on the passenger side of the engine block, just below the exhaust manifold.
>2. Place an oil drain pan under the oil filter to catch any oil that spills.
>3. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the old oil filter.
>4. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
>5. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the oil filter.
>6. Remove the oil drain pan and replace the oil drain plug.
>7. Add new engine oil to the engine, as specified in the owner's manual.
