How do you remove the engine in a ford aerostar?

Tools and Materials:

- Screwdriver set

- Socket set

- Wrench set

- Pliers

- Drain pan

- Safety goggles

- Oil filter wrench

- Transmission fluid drain pan

- Engine hoist or jack and stands

- New engine gasket set

Instructions:

1. Preparatory Steps:

- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

- Remove the spark plug wires and label each wire accordingly for easy reinstallation.

2. Removing Fluids:

- Position a drain pan under the engine oil pan and drain plug.

- Remove the oil drain plug and allow all the oil to drain out.

3. Coolant System Drainage:

- Place a drain pan under the radiator drain plug.

- Locate and open the radiator drain plug to allow the coolant to drain.

4. Removing Transmission Lines:

- Place a transmission fluid drain pan under the transmission pan.

- Locate the transmission fluid lines and remove them using a wrench.

Be cautious as some transmission fluid may spill out.

5. Removing Exhaust Manifold:

- Disconnect the oxygen sensors from the exhaust manifold by unplugging the electrical connector and removing the sensors using a wrench.

- Remove the nuts or bolts securing the exhaust manifold to the engine head using a wrench or socket set.

- Once all the nuts or bolts are removed, carefully lift and remove the exhaust manifold.

6. Removing Other Hoses and Wiring:

- Disconnect any remaining vacuum lines, electrical connectors, or hoses attached to the engine that may obstruct its removal.

7. Removing the Starter Motor:

- Disconnect the electrical connector from the starter solenoid.

- Remove the nuts or bolts holding the starter motor in place and remove the starter motor.

8. Supporting the Engine:

- Position an engine hoist or jack stands underneath the engine to support it.

9. Transmission Disconnect:

- Locate and remove the bolts connecting the transmission to the engine.

- Slide the transmission back slightly to disengage it from the engine.

10. Removing Engine and Transmission:

- With the engine securely supported by the hoist, remove the remaining nuts or bolts securing the engine and transmission to the vehicle.

- Once all the bolts are removed, carefully lift the engine and transmission out of the vehicle.

11. Cleaning and Checking Parts:

- Clean the engine gasket surfaces on both the engine and the transmission.

- Inspect the old gasket for any damage and replace it if necessary.

12. Engine Installation:

- With the help of an assistant, carefully lower the engine and transmission into place.

- Secure the engine and transmission to the vehicle using the bolts you previously removed.

13. Reconnecting Lines and Wiring:

- Reconnect all the hoses, lines, electrical connectors, and vacuum lines that you disconnected during removal.

14. Refilling Fluids:

- Refill the engine with oil, using the specified amount and type of oil recommended for your vehicle.

- Refill the coolant system with the appropriate coolant mixture.

- Refill the transmission fluid according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

15. Reconnecting Battery:

- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

16. Test Run:

- Perform a test run to check for any leaks or functional issues with the engine.

17. Final Inspections:

- Perform a final inspection to ensure that everything is properly connected, tightened, and secure.
