Locate the crankshaft pulley. It is located at the front of the engine, below the timing belt cover.
Look for a small notch or line on the edge of the crankshaft pulley. This marks the top dead center (TDC) position of the piston in cylinder #1.
Find the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket. It is located on the side of the sprocket, facing the crankshaft pulley. It is usually a small dot or line.
Align the crankshaft pulley mark with the camshaft sprocket mark. This indicates that the engine is at TDC and the valves are in the correct position for ignition.
If the marks are not aligned, you will need to adjust the timing belt. This can be done by loosening the timing belt tensioner and rotating the crankshaft pulley until the marks are aligned.
