- New Crankshaft Position Sensor
Procedure:
1. Locate the crankshaft position sensor. It is usually located near the crankshaft on the front of the engine. On a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, it is located near the bottom of the engine on the driver's side, slightly above the oil pan.
2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor.
3. Remove the mounting bolt that holds the sensor in place.
4. Remove the old sensor from the engine.
5. Install the new sensor into the engine.
6. Secure the sensor with the mounting bolt.
7. Reconnect the electrical connector.
8. Start the engine and verify that the sensor is working properly.
