What is the PCV valve on your 96 dodge avenger and what does it do?

PCV Valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilation)

The PCV valve, located on top of the intake manifold with a hose from it to one of the valve covers, controls crankcase pressures in the engine and draws filtered-metered outside air through them. This air replaces and helps control harmful crankcase blow-by gases from escaping into the atmosphere in your car.
