How do you replace the water pump on a 1992 Buick Park Avenue ultra with 3.8 supercharged v6?

Tools Needed:

- 3/8-inch drive ratchet

- Socket set (metric and standard)

- 10mm wrench

- 13mm wrench

- 15mm wrench

- 18mm wrench

- Pliers

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Funnel

- Coolant (appropriate for the model)

Instructions:

1. Allow the engine to cool completely.

2. Disconnect the battery by removing the negative terminal cable.

3. Drain the coolant system by opening the petcock valve located on the bottom of the radiator.

4. Remove the following items:

- Serpentine belt

- Power steering pump (loosen the bolts and move the pump out of the way)

- Air conditioning compressor (loosen the bolts and move the compressor out of the way)

5. Remove the four bolts that hold the water pump in place.

6. Remove the old water pump.

7. Clean the mating surface of the water pump and cylinder block.

8. Apply a thin bead of sealant to the mating surface of the new water pump.

9. Install the new water pump and bolts.

10. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.

11. Reinstall the air conditioning compressor and power steering pump.

12. Reinstall the serpentine belt.

13. Refill the coolant system.

14. Connect the battery negative terminal cable.

15. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

16. Check for leaks.

Note: It may be necessary to burp the cooling system to remove air pockets. This can be done by squeezing the upper radiator hose while the engine is running.
