- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
- New oil (5 quarts of 5W-30)
Instructions:
1. Preparation
- Start your car and let it run for a few minutes to warm up the oil.
- Find the oil pan drain plug on the bottom of the engine (it will usually be a 17mm bolt).
- Place the oil drain pan underneath the drain plug to catch the used oil.
2. Drain the Oil
- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug.
- Let the oil completely drain into the oil drain pan. This may take a few minutes.
- Once the oil has stopped dripping, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
3. Oil Filter Replacement
- Locate the oil filter near the top of the engine.
- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
- Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug. Do not overtighten.
4. Add New Oil
- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.
- Refill with 5 quarts of 5W-30 oil.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.
5. Check for Leaks
- Start the car and let it run for a few minutes.
- Look under the car for any oil leaks. If you see any leaks, tighten the drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
6. Dispose of Used Oil
- Dispose of the used oil and oil filter properly. Most auto parts stores will accept these items for recycling.
