Where is the thermostat located and how do you replace it on a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.9L 6 Cylinder?

Location:

The thermostat is located in the thermostat housing, which is on the front of the engine, just below the upper radiator hose.

Replacement Procedure:

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Drain the coolant from the radiator.

3. Remove the upper radiator hose.

4. Unbolt the thermostat housing from the engine block.

5. Remove the old thermostat from the housing.

6. Inspect the thermostat gasket and replace it if necessary.

7. Install the new thermostat in the housing.

8. Reattach the thermostat housing to the engine block and tighten the bolts.

9. Reattach the upper radiator hose.

10. Fill the radiator with coolant.

11. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

12. Start the engine and check for leaks.
