Why there any voltage going to the fuel pump on a silverado?

The fuel pump in a Silverado (and most modern vehicles) needs voltage to operate. The pump is an electric motor that pushes fuel from the tank to the engine. Without voltage, it won't run, and the engine won't get fuel.

The voltage is supplied through a circuit that's carefully controlled by the vehicle's computer (PCM or ECM). This control ensures the pump only runs when needed (e.g., when the ignition is on and/or the engine is cranking/running), and may even adjust the pump's speed depending on engine demands. The system also has safety features to prevent the pump from running unnecessarily or if a problem is detected.
