Where is the oil filter on a 2005 dodge ram 2500 5.9l cummins turbo diesel?

Oil Filter Location

*Below the alternator, on the left side of the engine block*

Procedure:

1. Open the hood and locate the oil filter. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.

2. Clean around the oil filter with a rag to prevent any debris from entering the engine when removing the filter.

3. Place an oil pan under the filter to catch any spilled oil.

4. Depending on the angle of your filter there are two ways to loosen it:

- Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the filter. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to loosen the filter.

- If you can’t get a good angle to use the wrench, use the following method.

- Punch a screwdriver through the filter about halfway towards the base.

- Use the screwdriver handle as a lever to turn the filter counterclockwise until loose.

5. Remove the oil filter by hand and let all of the oil drain out of the filter before discarding. Ensure the old filter's gasket comes off with the filter.

6. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter before installing.

7. Hand-tighten the new oil filter until snug. Do not overtighten the filter, as this can damage the filter or the engine block.

8. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks around the oil filter.

9. Turn off the engine and check the oil level. Add more oil if necessary.
