How do you change the oil pan gasket in a Toyota 4runner?

Tools and materials needed:

- New oil pan gasket

- Oil pan drain plug washer

- Oil filter

- 10mm and 14mm socket wrench

- Oil filter wrench

- Flathead screwdriver

- Funnel

- 5 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil

Instructions:

1. Park your 4Runner on a level surface. Allow the engine to cool down to the touch to avoid burning yourself.

2. Raise your 4Runner using a hydraulic floor jack and jack stands. Securely place the jack stands under the frame of your 4Runner to support the weight of the vehicle.

3. Locate the oil pan drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Place a drain pan under the drain plug to catch the old oil.

4. Use a 14mm socket wrench to loosen and remove the oil pan drain plug. Allow all of the old oil to drain out completely.

5. While the oil is draining, use an oil filter wrench to loosen and remove the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.

6. Clean the oil pan drain plug and the oil filter mounting surface with a clean rag.

7. Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the new oil pan gasket and press the gasket in place on the oil pan.

8. Reinstall the oil pan drain plug and tighten it with a 14mm socket wrench.

9. Apply a thin coat of engine oil to the new oil filter and screw the oil filter into place by hand. Once the oil filter is hand-tight, tighten it an additional 1/4 turn with an oil filter wrench.

10. Lower your 4Runner using the hydraulic floor jack.

11. Open the hood of your 4Runner and locate the oil filler cap on top of the valve cover.

12. Remove the oil filler cap and use a funnel to add 5 quarts of 5W-30 motor oil to the engine.

13. Replace the oil filler cap.

14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new oil throughout the engine.

15. Check for any leaks from the oil pan drain plug or the oil filter.
