Is the only way to change a fuel pump on 2000 Tahoe is drop tank?

There are two ways to change the fuel pump on a 2000 Tahoe. With both methods you will need the following tools:

Tools

- Socket set

- Wrench set

- Screwdriver

- Pliers

- Fuel line disconnect tool

- New fuel pump and filter

Instructions

Drop the fuel tank

1. Park your Tahoe on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Locate the fuel tank. It is located under the rear of the vehicle.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.

5. Lower the fuel tank. This may require you to remove some of the bolts holding the fuel tank in place.

6. Remove the old fuel pump and filter.

7. Install the new fuel pump and filter.

8. Reattach the fuel lines and electrical connector to the fuel pump.

9. Reinstall the fuel tank.

10. Tighten the bolts holding the fuel tank in place.

11. Test the fuel pump by turning on the ignition.

Remove the fuel pump access door

1. Locate the fuel pump access door. It is usually located on top of the fuel tank.

2. Remove the bolts holding the fuel pump access door in place.

3. Disconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.

5. Remove the fuel pump from the tank.

6. Replace the fuel pump with a new one.

7. Reattach the fuel lines and electrical connector to the fuel pump.

8. Reinstall the fuel pump access door.

9. Tighten the bolts holding the fuel pump access door in place.

10. Test the fuel pump by turning on the ignition.

Note:

Be sure to take precautions when working around fuel. Fuel can be flammable and harmful. When changing the fuel pump, always wear safety glasses and gloves, and work in a well-ventilated area.
