1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. This can be done by removing the fuel cap and pressing the Schrader valve on the fuel rail with a flat-head screwdriver.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will prevent any electrical sparks from occurring while you are working on the fuel system.

3. Locate the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located under the rear seat of the Kia Rio.

4. Remove the rear seat. The rear seat is held in place by two bolts at the front and two bolts at the back. Remove the bolts and then lift the seat out of the car.

5. Remove the fuel pump access cover. The fuel pump access cover is located under the rear seat. Remove the four screws that hold the cover in place and then lift the cover off.

6. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines that connect to the fuel pump. Use fuel line pliers to disconnect the fuel lines.

7. Remove the electrical connector from the fuel pump. The electrical connector is located on the top of the fuel pump. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the connector off.

8. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts. The fuel pump is held in place by three bolts. Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts.

9. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Once the bolts are removed, you can lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank.

10. Install the new fuel pump. Place the new fuel pump into the fuel tank and then secure it with the three mounting bolts.

11. Reconnect the electrical connector to the fuel pump.

12. Reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel pump.

13. Replace the fuel pump access cover.

14. Reinstall the rear seat.

15. Connect the negative battery terminal.
