1. Disconnect the battery to eliminate the risk of an accidental start-up during work.
2. Remove the serpentine belt. To do this:
-Locate the tensioner pulley in the engine bay (It usually has a "T" or arrow mark on it).
-Insert a breaker bar into the tensioner pulley and pull it counterclockwise to relieve the tension on the belt.
-Remove the belt by slipping it off the pulleys.
3. Remove the timing belt cover by unbolting it.
4. Locate the crankshaft timing mark. It is usually a notch or mark on the crankshaft pulley that aligns with a similar mark on the engine block.
5. Locate the camshaft timing marks. They are usually notches or marks on the camshaft sprockets that align with marks on the cylinder head.
6. Align the timing marks.
-Make sure that the crankshaft timing mark is aligned with the mark on the engine block.
-Make sure that the camshaft timing marks are aligned with the marks on the cylinder head.
7. Install the new timing belt.
-Start by routing the belt around the crankshaft pulley, then the camshaft sprockets, and finally the water pump pulley.
-Make sure that the timing marks are still aligned.
-Tighten the timing belt tensioner to the specified torque.
8. Reinstall the timing belt cover.
9. Reinstall the serpentine belt.
10. Reconnect the battery.
Now, the timing should be correctly set. Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises or vibrations. If everything sounds and feels fine, take the car for a test drive to ensure it is running smoothly.
