2. Remove the distributor cap and adjust the timing. If the timing is off, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt, turn the distributor housing until the timing marks align, and then tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
3. Connect a timing light to the engine’s number one spark plug wire. Start the engine and let it idle. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the engine’s crankshaft pulley. The timing marks should align with the pointer on the timing cover.
4. If the timing marks do not align, adjust the distributor housing until they do.
5. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt and replace the distributor cap.
