- Replacement brake light bulb (Check owner's manual for specific bulb type)
- Flathead screwdriver or plastic trim removal tool
1. Access the Trunk: Open the trunk of your Mitsubishi Lancer.
2. Locate the Tail Light Assembly: On each side of the trunk, behind the inner trunk panel, you'll see the taillight assemblies.
3. Remove the Tail Light Assembly: Use a flat-head screwdriver or plastic trim removal tool to carefully pry open the plastic trunk lining near the tail light assembly. Once the plastic lining is loose, you should see a couple of screws holding the tail light assembly in place. Use a screwdriver to remove these screws.
4. Disconnect the Wiring Harness: Once the screws are removed, gently pull the tail light assembly out of its housing. Be careful not to pull too hard, as the wiring harness is still connected. Disconnect the wiring harness by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight out.
5. Replace the Bulb: Locate the burnt-out brake light bulb. Turn the bulb counterclockwise to unlock and remove it from the housing. Be careful not to drop the bulb. Align the new bulb's pins with the corresponding holes in the housing and gently turn it clockwise until it locks in place.
6. Reattach the Wiring Harness: Reconnect the wiring harness to the tail light assembly by pushing the connector back in until it clicks.
7. Reinstall the Tail Light Assembly: Place the tail light assembly back into its housing and secure it using the screws you removed earlier.
8. Test the Brake Lights: Close the trunk and turn on the brake lights to ensure that the new bulb is working properly.
9. Replace the Trunk Lining: If you removed any plastic trunk lining, carefully place it back and press it in until it snaps into place.
