Instructions:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
- Open your vehicle's hood and disconnect the negative terminal of your battery using your socket wrench.
- This is a safety precaution to make sure that there won’t be any power going to the spark plugs while changing them.
Step 2: Locate the Spark Plugs
- The spark plugs on the Hyundai Sonata V6 are located on both sides of the engine.
- They are at the end of the ignition coils.
Step 3: Remove the Ignition Coils
- Using the socket wrench, remove the bolts holding the ignition coil packs in place.
- Once the bolts are removed, carefully lift off the ignition coil packs and place them to the side.
Step 4: Clean the Spark Plug Wells
- Before removing the spark plugs, use a rag to clean debris from the spark plug wells.
- This helps prevent any debris from falling into the engine.
Step 5: Remove the Spark Plugs
- Using the spark plug wrench, turn counter-clockwise to loosen and remove the spark plugs.
Step 6: Gap the New Spark Plugs
- Use a spark plug gap gauge to set the gap between the electrodes of the new spark plugs to the recommended specification for your vehicle.
- The recommended spark plug gap for a 1995 Hyundai Sonata V6 is 0.044 inches (1.12 mm).
Step 7: Insert the New Spark Plugs
- Carefully insert the new spark plugs into the spark plug wells.
- Hand-tighten the spark plugs until they are snug. Do not over-tighten the spark plugs, as this can damage the threads.
Step 8: Reinstall the Ignition Coils
- Place the ignition coil packs back onto the spark plugs and secure them with the bolts that were removed earlier.
Step 9: Reconnect the Battery
- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery to the battery post using the socket wrench.
Step 10: Start the Engine
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will allow the new spark plugs to seat properly.
