- A C-clamp
- A large flathead screwdriver
- A pair of pliers
- A brake fluid reservoir

>Be careful not to damage the brake caliper when using the pliers.
Here are the steps on how to compress the rear brake piston on a 2004 Mazda 3:
1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Remove the lug nuts on the rear wheels, then remove the wheels.
3. Locate the brake caliper on the backside of the wheel hub.
4. Use the pliers to remove the brake pad pins. Take care not to damage the rubber boots on the pins.
5. Remove the brake pads.
6. Use the C-clamp to compress the brake piston. Turn the screw on the C-clamp clockwise until the piston is fully seated.
7. Use the flathead screwdriver to pry out the brake caliper.
8. Use the pliers to remove the brake caliper bracket bolts.
9. Remove the brake caliper bracket.
10. Inspect the brake rotor and replace it if necessary.
11. To reinstall the brake caliper, slide the caliper bracket back onto the rotor.
12. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts and tighten them to the specified torque.
13. Reinstall the brake caliper and secure it with the brake pad pins.
14. Install the brake pads.
15. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.
16. Lower your car and test the brakes.
