1. Park your car on a flat surface and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the distributor cap. It is a black plastic cap located near the front of the engine.
4. Remove the distributor cap by unfastening the screws that hold it in place.
5. Inside the distributor cap, you will see a rotor and a distributor cap. The distributor cap has a series of small holes that correspond to the spark plugs in the engine.
6. Locate the timing mark on the engine. It is usually a small notch or line on the crankshaft pulley.
7. With a wrench, turn the crankshaft until the timing mark is aligned with the pointer on the timing cover.
7. Once the timing mark is aligned, the distributor cap can be installed.
8. Fasten the distributor cap screws and reconnect the spark plug wires.
9. Close the hood of your car and start the engine.
10. Check the ignition timing with a timing light. It is recommended to have a professional mechanic do this step for you.
