1. Park your vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your vehicle.
3. Locate the diagnostic connector, which is a small black box with a 16-pin connector. It is usually located near the battery.
4. Connect a jumper wire between the "Service Check Connector" (SCS) terminal and the ground terminal on the diagnostic connector.
5. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
6. The check engine light will begin to flash. Count the number of flashes, as this will indicate the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that is stored in the vehicle's computer.
7. Write down the DTC and turn off the ignition key.
8. Disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
9. Close the hood of your vehicle.
10. Start the engine and the check engine light should be reset.
If the check engine light comes back on after resetting it, there may be a more serious problem with your vehicle that needs to be addressed. In this case, it is recommended to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
