Damaged torque converter. The torque converter is a fluid coupling that connects the engine to the transmission. If the torque converter is damaged, it can cause the transmission to slip.
Faulty transmission control module (TCM). The TCM is the computer that controls the transmission. If the TCM is faulty, it can send incorrect signals to the transmission, which can cause it to slip.
Electrical problems. Electrical problems, such as a faulty wiring harness or a bad solenoid, can also cause the transmission to slip.
