How do you release fuel pressure?

Fuel injection:

1. Turn off the engine.

2. Find the fuel pressure regulator (FPR). The FPR is typically located on the fuel rail. It is a small, round device with a vacuum line attached to it.

3. Remove the vacuum line from the FPR.

4. Allow the fuel pressure to bleed off. It may take a few minutes.

5. Reattach the vacuum line to the FPR.

Carburetor:

1. Turn off the engine.

2. Remove the air cleaner cover.

3. Locate the fuel line that goes to the carburetor.

4. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line fitting.

5. Allow the fuel pressure to bleed off. It may take a few minutes.

6. Retighten the fuel line fitting.

7. Replace the air cleaner cover.

Important

Be sure to wear safety glasses and gloves when releasing fuel pressure.

Fuel injection systems can operate at very high pressures. If you do not release the fuel pressure properly, you could be injured.
