How do you check car battery fluid level?

Checking the battery fluid level in your car involves the following steps:

1. Park your car on level ground and turn off the engine. Allow the car to cool down if it has been running.

2. Open the hood of your car. Locate the car battery. It is usually a black or gray box mounted in the engine compartment.

3. Identify the battery terminals. The positive terminal is marked with a "+" sign, and the negative terminal is marked with a "-" sign.

4. Locate the battery fluid caps. They are usually small, round, and made of plastic or rubber. They may be located on top of the battery or on the sides.

5. Remove the battery fluid caps carefully. Be cautious not to spill any fluid on yourself or the car's components.

6. Check the fluid level inside the battery cells. The fluid should cover the metal plates inside the cells by about 1/4 inch. If the fluid level is low, you need to add distilled water.

7. Add distilled water to the battery cells if necessary. Use a funnel or a turkey baster to carefully add distilled water to each cell until the fluid level is about 1/4 inch above the metal plates.

8. Replace the battery fluid caps tightly. Make sure the caps are secure to prevent the fluid from spilling.

9. Close the hood of your car.

*Note:* Some modern batteries are maintenance-free and do not have removable caps to check the fluid level. If your battery is maintenance-free, you may not be able to check the fluid level. Consult your vehicle's owner manual for specific information about your car battery.

Remember, working with car batteries can be dangerous, so it is crucial to follow safety precautions and handle them with care.
