1. Remove the fairing:
- Remove the front seat.
- Remove the side fairings by removing the screws that hold them in place.
2. Locate the spark plugs:
- The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine, under the ignition coils.
3. Remove the ignition coil:
- Unplug the electrical connector from the ignition coil.
- Remove the two bolts that hold the ignition coil in place.
- Lift the ignition coil off the spark plug.
4. Remove the old spark plug:
- Use a spark plug wrench to loosen the old spark plug.
- Remove the old spark plug by turning it counterclockwise.
5. Install the new spark plug:
- Screw in the new spark plug by turning it clockwise.
- Tighten the spark plug to the specified torque (18 ft-lb).
6. Reinstall the ignition coil:
- Place the ignition coil back over the spark plug.
- Insert the two bolts that hold the ignition coil in place.
- Tighten the bolts to the specified torque (8 ft-lb).
7. Reconnect the electrical connector to the ignition coil.
8. Reinstall the side fairings and front seat.
The spark plugs on a Yamaha R6 2003 should be replaced every 12,000 miles or every two years, whichever comes first.
