1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine.
2. Locate the diagnostic link connector (DLC) under the dashboard, usually near the steering column.
3. Connect a code reader or scanner to the DLC.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position, but do not start the engine.
5. The code reader or scanner will display the trouble codes stored in the vehicle's computer.
6. Write down the trouble codes and look them up in a code book or online to find out what they mean.
Additional notes:
- Some code readers or scanners may require you to enter the vehicle's VIN number or other information before they can read the codes.
- If you do not have a code reader or scanner, you can take your vehicle to a mechanic or auto parts store to have the codes read for you.
