How do you change the front differential fluid on a 2001 explorer?

Step 1: Get the Right Materials

To change the front differential fluid, you will need:

- A new differential fluid (check your owner's manual for the recommended type and amount)

- A drain pan

- A wrench

- A funnel

- A pair of gloves

Step 2: Prepare the Vehicle

- Park the vehicle on a level surface.

- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.

- Engage the parking brake.

- Craw beneath vehicle under the front end and locate the differential.

- Clean the drain plug and the fill plug.

Step 3: Drain the Differential Fluid

- Place the drain pan under the differential drain plug.

- Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug.

- Allow the differential fluid to drain completely.

Step 4: Reinstall the Drain Plug

- Once all of the differential fluid has drained out, reinstall the drain plug.

- Tighten the drain plug until it is snug.

Step 5: Add the Fresh Fluid

- Use the funnel to add fresh differential fluid to the differential.

- Fill the differential until it reaches the proper level (check your owner's manual for the correct level).

Step 6: Check for Leaks

- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

- Look for any leaks from the differential.

- If there are any leaks, tighten the drain plug and/or fill plug until the leaks stop.

Congratulations. You have successfully changed the front differential fluid in your 2001 Ford Explorer.
