2. Check the power steering fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the reservoir. If the level is low, you'll need to add more fluid.
3. Purchase the correct power steering fluid. Your Mazda Protege requires Dexron III automatic transmission fluid (ATF).
4. Add power steering fluid to the reservoir. Use a funnel to add the fluid slowly, being careful not to overfill the reservoir.
5. Check the power steering fluid level again and adjust it if necessary.
6. Replace the reservoir cap securely.
