1. Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is located under the vehicle, near the driver's side fuel tank. It is a cylindrical-shaped metal canister with two fuel lines connected to it.
2. Relieve the fuel pressure. Before you remove the fuel filter, you must relieve the fuel pressure in the system. To do this, remove the fuel cap and start the engine. Let the engine run for a few minutes until it stalls. Then, turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines connected to the fuel filter. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line fittings and disconnect the fuel lines. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
4. Remove the fuel filter. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove the fuel filter. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel filter mounting bolts and remove the fuel filter.
5. Install the new fuel filter. Insert the new fuel filter into the mounting bracket and secure it with the fuel filter mounting bolts. Hand-tighten the bolts first, then use a wrench to tighten them securely.
6. Reconnect the fuel lines. Connect the fuel lines to the new fuel filter and tighten the fuel line fittings.
7. Start the engine. Reconnect the negative battery cable and start the engine. Check for any fuel leaks. If there are no leaks, your fuel filter is properly installed.
