1. Locate the timing marks. The timing marks are located on the harmonic balancer and the timing cover. The harmonic balancer is the large pulley at the front of the engine, and the timing cover is the metal cover that covers the timing chain.
2. Connect the timing light. Connect the timing light to the battery and to the number one spark plug wire.
3. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it idle.
4. Aim the timing light at the timing marks. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the harmonic balancer and the timing cover.
5. Adjust the timing. Use the wrench to loosen the distributor hold-down bolt.
6. Turn the distributor. Use the screwdriver to turn the distributor until the timing marks line up.
7. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt to secure the distributor in place.
8. Turn off the engine. Turn off the engine and disconnect the timing light.
The timing is now set for your small block 350 Chevy Z28.
