How do you change oil on polaris sportsman 400 ATV?

Changing the oil on a Polaris Sportsman 400 ATV is a relatively simple task that can be completed in about 30 minutes. You will need the following materials:

- New oil filter (Polaris part number 2540124)

- New O-ring for oil drain plug (Polaris part number 1211193)

- Oil drain pan

- Funnel

- Wrench

- Rags

Instructions:

To change the oil:

1. Drain the old oil. Place the oil drain pan under the ATV and remove the oil drain plug. Allow the old oil to drain completely.

2. Replace the oil drain plug. Install the new O-ring on the oil drain plug and screw the plug back into the ATV. Tighten the plug until it is snug.

3. Add new oil. Use the funnel to add the new oil to the ATV. The oil fill hole is located on the left side of the ATV, just below the seat. Add the correct amount of oil specified in your ATV's owner's manual.

4. Replace the oil filter. Locate the oil filter on the right side of the ATV, just below the seat. Remove the old oil filter and install the new oil filter. Tighten the oil filter until it is snug.

To check the oil level:

1. Start the ATV and let it run for a few minutes.

2. Turn off the ATV and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.

3. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
