Materials Needed:
- New intake manifold gasket set
- Coolant
- Oil
- Gasket sealant
- Socket set
- Ratchet
- Torque wrench
- Pry bar
- Scraper
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
- Start by disconnecting the battery's negative terminal to prevent electrical accidents.
- Allow the engine to cool down if it's been running.
2. Drain Coolant:
- Locate the radiator drain plug and place a drain pan beneath it.
- Open the drain plug to allow the coolant to drain into the pan.
3. Remove Intake Assembly:
- Disconnect the intake air duct, fuel injector wiring harness, and vacuum hoses connected to the intake manifold.
- Remove the intake manifold bolts using the appropriate socket and ratchet.
- Carefully remove the intake manifold, taking care not to damage any components or drop bolts inside the engine.
4. Clean Surfaces:
- Scrape off any remnants of the old intake manifold gasket from the cylinder heads and intake manifold surfaces using a scraper.
- Make sure to clean the mating surfaces until they are smooth.
5. Apply Gasket Sealant:
- Apply a thin bead of gasket sealant to both sides of the new intake manifold gaskets.
- Make sure the sealant is applied evenly around the gasket's perimeter.
6. Install Intake Manifold:
- Carefully position the new intake manifold gaskets onto the cylinder heads.
- Place the intake manifold on the gaskets, ensuring proper alignment of bolt holes.
- Insert the intake manifold bolts and tighten them evenly in a criss-cross pattern.
- Tighten the bolts according to the torque specifications provided in your vehicle's service manual.
7. Reconnect Parts:
- Reconnect the intake air duct, fuel injector wiring harness, and vacuum hoses.
- Make sure all connections are secure.
8. Refill Coolant and Oil:
- Refill the coolant reservoir with a 50/50 mix of coolant and water.
- Check and fill the engine oil level if needed.
9. Double-Check:
- Double-check that all connections, bolts, and hoses are properly secured and tightened.
10. Test:
- Reconnect the battery's negative terminal.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
- Check for leaks around the intake manifold area. If there are no leaks, the job is complete.
Note: These steps are general guidelines and may vary slightly based on your vehicle's exact make and model. It is recommended to refer to your vehicle-specific service manual before performing any work on your vehicle.
