The crankshaft position sensor on the 2002 VW Cabrio is located on the oil pan, just below the oil filter housing. It is a small, cylindrical device with two wires coming out of it.
Tools Needed
* Socket wrench set
* Extension cord
* 10 mm socket
* Phillips-head screwdriver
Instructions
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the oil filter housing cover.
3. Locate the crankshaft position sensor. It is a small, cylindrical device with two wires coming out of it, located just below the oil filter housing.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the crankshaft position sensor.
5. Use a 10 mm socket to remove the two bolts holding the crankshaft position sensor in place.
6. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
7. Carefully remove the O-ring from the old sensor and install it on the new sensor.
8. Install the new sensor in place.
9. Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (7 ft-lbs).
10. Reconnect the electrical connector.
11. Replace the oil filter housing cover.
12. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
