1. Locate the distributor cap on the front of the engine. It is a round, black plastic cover with a wire connector on top.
2. Remove the distributor cap by pulling it straight up.
3. Look inside the distributor cap and you will see the rotor, which is a small, round plastic piece with a metal contact on the bottom.
4. The rotor turns with the engine, and it's what sends the spark to the spark plugs.
5. To turn the distributor, you need to loosen the hold-down bolt that is located on the side of the distributor.
6. Once the bolt is loose, you can turn the distributor by hand. Turn the distributor until the rotor points to the spark plug wire that corresponds to the number one spark plug.
7. Once the distributor is in the correct position, tighten the hold-down bolt.
8. Replace the distributor cap and connect the wire connector.
