- A 1/2-inch drive ratchet
- A 3/8-inch drive ratchet
- A breaker bar
- A torque wrench
- A 19mm socket
- A 24mm socket
- A 36mm socket
- A pry bar
- A flathead screwdriver
- Replacement crank pulley
- New pulley bolt
Instructions:
1. Park your Mustang on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
2. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to avoid electrical shock.
3. Remove the serpentine belt.
4. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt with a 36 mm socket. The pulley bolt will be very tight. you will need to use the breaker bar to break it loose.
5. Pry the crankshaft pulley off the crankshaft using the pry bar and a flathead screwdriver. You need to pry the pulley on the sides opposite the slots as you don't want to damage them.
6. Clean the crankshaft and pulley mating surfaces.
7. Install the new pulley bolt by hand.
8. Tighten the pulley bolt with a torque wrench to the specified torque.
9. Reinstall the serpentine belt.
10. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
That's it! You have successfully changed the crank pulley on your 2005 4.0 Mustang.
